Sunnah Table Manners

Narrated 'Umar bin Abi Salama: “I was a boy under the care of Allah's Apostle and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So Allah's Apostle said to me, 'O boy! Mention the Name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you." Since then I have applied those instructions when eating.”
288 Sahih Bukhari.

Food is a big blessing of ALLAH, and Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W taught us the manners and ways to handle it. These were his ways and we should follow them. The top Hadith tells us to start with the name of ALLAH, and then eat what’s in front of us first instead of eating from different sides of the plate. Basically every Muslim knows this but how many of us actually apply it. THINK ABOUT IT!

There is another thing we do is that we criticize the food that ALLAH blessed us with, if we don’t like that food we should just keep quiet and leave it, instead of being ungrateful and say what doesn’t please ALLAH (May ALLAH forgive us if we are ungrateful …AMEEN). And we should always say ALHUMDULILLAH because there are people out there dying from hunger.

“The Prophet (PBUH) never criticized any food (he was invited to) but he used to eat it if he liked the food, and leave it if he disliked it.”

Don’t laugh at others, ALLAH SWT’s commands [49:11]

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm

In the world of today it is very common to make fun of others and laugh at them, to joke about a group, cast or person in specific. And many of us don’t consider this bad but it is also not permissible in Islam.

In Islam our Lord ALLAH Almighty does not allow a believer to make fun of anyone, and also tells us not to insult any one nor call each other with offensive names. ALLAH The Most Merciful says in Quran in Surat Al-Ĥujurāt [49:11]

“O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one’s] faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.”

ALLAH SWT says that may be the person you are laughing at is better then you in many perspectives and considering that, you might be doing wrong by laughing at them. ALLAH the Great also orders us not to insult anyone because all the name, fame, status and glory we have in this word is given by one and onlyALLAH Almighty, and we have no right to insult anyone else’s status and name. ALLAH SWT also says that we are not supposed to call any one with offensive nicknames either. These are human rights, and I bet that if you were there being laughed at instead of them you wouldn’t like it either. One more thing that I understand from this ayah is that we don’t just have to stop ourselves from doing it, we are also supposed to stop others from doing it as well, “…let not a people…”, LET NOT others do it either.

One last thing that I understand from the last part of this ayah is that if we don’t repent after we have readALLAH’s commands then indeed we are the wrong doers.

“…And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.”[49:11]

Oh ALLAH SWT please help us obey this ayah and help us not become one of the wrong doers …AMEEN

Pillers of Islam

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm
In the name of God; The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

All Muslims know that Islam has five pillars, and if one of the pillars is missing or broken your deen (religion) is not complete. And all Muslims also know what these five pillars are.

1) Shahadah; declaration of faith
لا اله الا الله محمد رسول الله
"lā ilaha illela Allahu, Muhammad ur-rasul Ullah"
"There is no god but Allah, Muhammad [peace be upon him] is the messenger of Allah."

2) Salah; Muslims are required to pray five times a day
“Guard strictly the Salah, especially the middle Salah. And stand before Allah with obedience.” [2:238]

3) Zakah; giving a fixed proportion to charity
"My mercy encompasses all things, but I will specify it for the righteous who give Zakat" [7:156]

4) Sawm; fasting during the month of Ramadan
"Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwaa"[2:183]

5) Hajj; pilgrimage to Mecca
"And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass" [22:27]

These five things are very important, basically the first one, Shahadah is what categorize us as Muslims, the second one Salah is also compulsory but I have seen many Muslims skipping this part. Then the third,Zakat it is compulsory for only those who fall in the range of giving it. Sawm (fast), there is no skipping this either (but special cases apply). And then there is Hajj, if you can afford it then its compulsorily for you to perform it once in a life time.

I am pretty sure that everyone knows about these 5 major components of Islam but some of us fail to do them, mostly Salah and Sawm (fast)...Think about it , if you are the one missing any of these, then you are missing not only major  but also basic components of Islam. So turn to ALLAH before death finds you.
May ALLAH help us all walk the true path and may HE give us strength to stay on the right path as well...AMEEN

Note: May ALLAH forgive me if I said something wrong and unjust...AMEEN.

What is Islam?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

What is islam?
a short intro

Islam means "submission to the will of God". Muslims accept the Quran, as the word of ALLAH revealed to HIS last and final prophet,Muhammad S.A.W. Islam states that ALLAH sent messengers and prophets throughout the ages with the message of Unity of God and accountability in the Hereafter. Islam thus makes it an article of faith to believe in all the earlier prophets, starting with Adam, and continuing with Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, John the Baptist and Jesus amongst many others (may peace be on them all).

Islam is the complete religion, a blessing by ALLAH, in Surah Al-Maidah [5:3]

“…This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion…”

Every religion that came before Islam was for specific group of people or tribes, but when ALLAH sent Quran through prophet, Muhammad S.A.W it was send for all the people to come till the Day of Judgment. The word mankind in the following verse of Surah Al-Baqara [2:21] verifies this:

O Mankind! Worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, happily ye may guard (yourselves from evil)”

Islam is a complete set of rules and guidelines on how to live a perfect life; Islam is peace, a solution for humanity. It forbids every wrong thing and permits every good thing. This book “Quran” is the word of ALLAHHE knows each and everything, HEcreated us, HE knows the nature of humans and HE has given HIS orders accordingly. But at times what we do is what our hearts desire even if its actually destroying us. For this ALLAH has mentioned in Quran Surah Al-Baqara [2:216];

“...and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. ALLAH knows but you do not know.”

Islam orders us to believe in one God, “ALLAH” and the Last prophet Muhammad S.A.W, this religion is so beautiful that right after HIMALLAH orders us to obey and respect our parents. It is a way of life that teaches us the true brotherhood and kinship, it tells us to be kind and to love all the people of ALLAH FOR ALLAH, it teaches us to be just and merciful and most importantly it teaches us patience. Islam forbids a believer from cursing, speaking ill, lying, laughing(mocking and making fun of others) and pointing at others, it stops us from stealing, bribing, black marketing, killing, revealing others secrets, backbiting, blackmailing, torturing, injustice, dishonesty in work and in other peoples property, every illegal act you name it; everything that would cause harm to others mentally or physically is prohibited.

Islam is a religion of PEACE and orders us to greet each other in the best way possible, to help others, to ease their pain and celebrate with them their happiness, to take care and ask for the sick, to be kind and generous to orphans, widows, handicap, poor, and old people. A believer is supposed to be selfless and forgiving towards all mankind. Islam gives rights to everyone; parents, children, woman, wife, husbands, orphans, poor, sick, old, animals and EVEN non-Muslims, and prisoners. ALLAH orders us to give money inHIS way, to give charity, to do justice regardless of ranks and casts;
ALLAH say’s in Surah Al-Maidah 5:8

“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah , witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.”

Narrated by 'Abdullah bin 'Amr (radiyAllaahu 'anhu): A man asked the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alaihi wa salam), "What sort of deeds or (what qualities of) Islam are good?" The Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alaihi wa salam) replied;'To feed (the poor) and, greet those whom you know and those whom you do not Know.'
[Bukhari: Book 1, Vol 2, Hadith # 11 & # 27]

I can just fill pages and pages on this beautiful religion but I am keeping it extremely short, its basically an introduction so I can start posting more detail *wink*. But here I am going to add more opinions from different people, when I asked them “what Islam is?”

-Islam is the perfect religion, Islam is the truth.

-Islam is truly a piece of mind. When we could not get the calmness from inside, one can directly relate and contact to ALLAH, who takes all worries and tensions away and one can get relieved because he knows that ALLAH is now handling his problems so there is no need to worry about anything, this is how I define Islam.

-This is not mere religion; it’s a code of life! Elaborating what I said I’ll say the general Muslim population has the notion that if we pray and keep our fasts than we have completed our obligation to Islam, but it’s more than that. It’s how you walk, how you talk, how you relate to people and conditions around us. If there is the element of Islam in all of these than we should qualify ourselves as Muslims.

-Islam is a triangular equilibrium of jurisprudence, law and ethics and hence complete code of life i.e. your relation with others, with yourself and with the one, The Almighty. It’s absolutely according to human’s intellectual.

-Islam is the way of life, not just a religion. It helps us make our lives easier instead of complicated, unlike other religions.

-Islam is Abhramic monotheistic religion which literally means entering into peace. The universal Muslim greeting "Assalamoalikum" even means "peace be with you”. It is a universal religion and complete way of life. In religious context it means complete submission to the will of ALLAH. And one can only find peace by submitting himself to ALLAH. Islam may seem exotic in modern world. This is because in west people don't follow their religion, where as Muslim have religion uppermost in their mind. For them "shariat" matters. There is success in being fundamentalist not in modernization. Islam and Christianity both have same origin they go back to Prophet Abraham. All the Prophets preached the same religion that is Islam. It’s not only a religion but a truth.
