Sunnah Table Manners

Narrated 'Umar bin Abi Salama: “I was a boy under the care of Allah's Apostle and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So Allah's Apostle said to me, 'O boy! Mention the Name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you." Since then I have applied those instructions when eating.”
288 Sahih Bukhari.

Food is a big blessing of ALLAH, and Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W taught us the manners and ways to handle it. These were his ways and we should follow them. The top Hadith tells us to start with the name of ALLAH, and then eat what’s in front of us first instead of eating from different sides of the plate. Basically every Muslim knows this but how many of us actually apply it. THINK ABOUT IT!

There is another thing we do is that we criticize the food that ALLAH blessed us with, if we don’t like that food we should just keep quiet and leave it, instead of being ungrateful and say what doesn’t please ALLAH (May ALLAH forgive us if we are ungrateful …AMEEN). And we should always say ALHUMDULILLAH because there are people out there dying from hunger.

“The Prophet (PBUH) never criticized any food (he was invited to) but he used to eat it if he liked the food, and leave it if he disliked it.”
